Avoiding the Wretched Tunnel

The first burn of your candle is crucial: let it burn until the melted wax reaches the container’s edge, which takes about 2 to 4 hours for our 16 oz candles. This helps prevent tunneling, which can reduce burn time. It may take over three hours for the wax to fully melt on the first burn, and a thin layer of wax may remain along the edges due to the FSC wood wick. To minimize this, trim the wick to around 0.2 inch or less (up to 1/8 inch) before the first use, and remove burnt ends after each burn. If you don’t have wick trimmers, nail clippers work well.

Step #3

Step #1

Soften Residual Wax

After the candle has burned out, fill the container with hot water and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. This optional step helps soften any remaining wax and loosens the wick clip at the bottom of the container.

Step #2

Remove Wick Clip

Empty the water and carefully take out the wick clip(s) from the container’s base. With the previous step, this should be easier, although you may need to gently pry it out.

Step #3

Clean the Container

Once the wick clip is removed, clean the container thoroughly. Our natural wax is water-soluble; wash the interior with warm water and soap to remove any wax residue. If recycling the container, ensure it is completely clean and the label is removed.
